Dear Chamber Members,
Our community is mourning.
What took place on June 29 was more than a tragedy—it was an assault on the values we hold dear. Two firefighters, answering a routine call near Canfield Mountain, were ambushed and killed. A third remains in critical condition.
These were men serving our city—doing what they’ve always done: showing up, protecting lives, and risking their own.
Today, we are left with heavy hearts—but also a clear purpose.
This is not who we are. And this is not what we accept.
In North Idaho, we take care of one another. We show up for our neighbors, for our first responders, and for the families who are now facing unimaginable grief. In moments like this, we don’t just feel sorrow—we act with compassion. We lead with unity.
Now is the time to show the world who we are.
We are calling on our business community—on you—to rally in support of the families of these fallen heroes. The Red & Blue Foundation is now accepting donations to support the families of the fallen. I urge you—if you are able—to join us in honoring their service and sacrifice.

Let this be a moment that defines us not by violence, but by our response to it. Let us be known for our unity, not our silence.
On behalf of the Chamber and our entire board, thank you for standing together in support of our first responders, their families, and the heart of our community.
In Loving Memory
- Battalion Chief John Morrison, Coeur d’Alene Firefighters Local 710
- Battalion Chief Frank J. Harwood, Kootenai County Firefighters Local 2856
Please also keep Coeur d’Alene Fire Department Engineer, Dave Tysdal and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to heal.
With most profound respect and shared resolve,
