On Tuesday, January 24th, the Governor gave an update on his “Idaho First” initiative and his budget proposal for 2023 to local businesses hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Chamber. Hearing the Governor speak is a rare opportunity, but in this case, local businesses experienced the additional privilege of attending alongside high school students!
At the beautiful Hagadone Event Center, more than one-hundred high school students joined the CDA Regional Chamber and local business leaders at this special event. Students were warmly included and welcomed to the table so that they might learn more about the issues facing our great state.
Education is a top priority for our chamber, and we are always looking for ways to connect with high school students and give them opportunities to participate in our community. When we presented the idea of sponsoring students to local businesses so that they might attend cost-free, the response was a quick and unanimous “YES” from six local business leaders.
Students came from a wide variety of different schools, including Coeur d’Alene High School, Lake City High School, Elevate Academy North, CDA Charter Academy, Holy Family Catholic School, Coeur du Christ Academy, Venture High School, and Kootenai Bridge Academy.
We are so grateful to the following businesses who stepped up to sponsor these students:
- Advanced Benefits
- Avista Corp
- Beacon Cancer Care
- Express Employment Professionals
- Northwest Specialty Hospital
- Thorco Inc Electrical Construction
In his address, it was evident that Governor Little also has a big heart for students and strongly supports education. This includes the proposal to allocate a large portion of the budget toward college scholarships for students who choose to go on to an Idaho post-secondary school. But Little also cares about ensuring that students are ready for college, and his proposal also includes a robust reading program. He increased reading initiatives and programs by five times the amount.
The Chamber was truly honored to host this special event shared by both leaders and students alike.
Our mission is truly our members. We are the voice of business and would love to have you join us:
