Last week, as a member of the Idaho Chamber Alliance, a cohort of Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber members, board directors and staff had the honor of attending Idaho Business Policy Summit, held on February 5 – 6, 2024. This event was an exciting opportunity for Idaho’s business community to hear from policymakers, lobbyists, government officials, chamber alliance members, and business leaders and to discuss legislative priorities that impact Idaho’s economy.

Summary of Sessions and Speakers:

  • Superintendent Debbie Critchfield provided insights into Idaho’s education system.
  • Samuel Wolkenhauer, from the Idaho Department of Labor, tackled workforce challenges at the keynote luncheon.
  • Matthew May highlighted critical policy initiatives through the 2024 Idaho Public Policy Survey.
  • Legislative leaders discussed key issues from the 2024 session.
  • Kelly Packer and Caleb Roope explored economic development tools.
  • Kate Simonds provided updates on local option taxation.

Day two commenced with breakfast with Governor Brad Little, followed by sessions from notable speakers on marketing Idaho, the role of the Lieutenant Governor, Scott Bedke, bolstering the workforce, and healthcare issues affecting businesses.

This collaborative summit provided the business community with insights into the legislative process, as well as access to key influencers and elected officials who have the power to impact change. As we look to the future, it is evident that the prosperity of our community hinges upon strong relations and collaboration between our business, education and governmental leaders. Together we can be advocates of change.

A special emphasis must be placed on the younger generation. They represent the future leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators who will shape the landscape of our community for years to come. As such, the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber is committed to advocating for policies and initiatives that prioritize a strong educational system as well as the intersection of education and business. By taking a bold position on these issues, we can pave the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for our community.
